The waiting list for places at residential homes for the elderly has been reduced by 30 per cent over the last year, Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana said yesterday.

She attributed the drop to a new measure to have applicants examined by a multidisciplinary team.

From next year, a maximum waiting time will be set for these examinations, she added.

The new Live-in Carers pilot scheme, announced in the last Budget, is to be introduced on January 1.
