A total of 28 international expressions of interest for the development of the Maritime Hub at the site of the former shipbuilding in Marsa have been received by the Privatisation Unit.

The call closed yesterday.

The government said in a statement this morning that 11 proposals were for the development of the whole site, the rest for the development of part of it.

The site is 175,000 metres square.

Economy Minister Chris Cardona said this number of submissions showed the investors’ confidence in the government’s vision to make Malta a maritime centre of excellence in the Mediterranean.

He said that the development of the centre was just one of the measures being taken by the government to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
