A 37-year-old Għaxaq man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing that happened at 3am on New Year's Day.

Daniel Mizzi appeared in court this morning and pled not guilty to the attempted murder of 26-year-old Karl Farrugia, also from Għaxaq, and causing him grievous bodily harm. Mr Mizzi also stands accused of carrying a knife without a licence.

Police said the incident happened at 3am in Triq ir-Rebbiegħa in Għaxaq.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he was later found to be suffering from grievous injuries.

Mr Mizzi did not request bail and has been remanded in custody. Legal aid lawyer Noel Cutajar asked for his client to undergo a medical examination due to drug dependency issues.
