Don’t get too close to that birthday candle ... wax figures of stars such as Russell Brand and Victoria Beckham gathered to celebrate a milestone for Madame Tussaud.

The founder of the London attraction would have celebrated her 250th birthday this month.

So staff at Madame Tussauds arranged a celebrity party in her honour with a range of popular wax figures.

Guests such as the Queen, Dame Helen Mirren, Prime Minister David Cameron and David Beckham were invited along to gather round the cake.

And pride of place went to Madame Marie Tussaud, whose own wax figure was first created in 1842.

Next year a new figure of The Queen is due to be unveiled, replacing the current one which dates back to 1996. It will be the 23rd figure to be displayed at Tussauds and will be on display for her Diamond Jubilee. Also due to make an appearance next year is her granddaughter-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, who will take her place alongside Prince William.

Taylor Lautner from the Twilight films will also go on display in 2012.
