Nearly 25,000 voting documents for the March 9 general election have not been delivered, about 4,000 fewer than the 2008 election figure.

The documents can be collected in person from the locality’s police station between tomorrow and March 2, including on Sunday, between 9am and 1pm and from 3 to 9pm.

Sources said that after the delivery of votes by party officials and the police ended, 24,932 remained undelivered.

This represents almost 7.5 per cent of the total number of eligible voters, which stands at 332,963 for this election.

When the same process was completed prior to the 2008 election, 29,101 votes had remained undelivered, that is, 9.23 per cent of the total eligible voters.

The electoral district with the largest number of undelivered votes is the 12th, which covers Mellieħa, Naxxar and St Paul’s Bay, where almost 3,900 voting documents remain.

This is followed by the ninth and 10th districts, comprising St Julian’s, Sliema, San Ġwann and Pembroke. There were 2,349 undelivered votes in the ninth and almost 3,000 in the 10th district.

The Electoral Commission said yesterday that people whose name appeared on the Electoral Register and had not received their voting document could collect them by producing their identity card at their locality’s police station.

Voters living in St Paul’s Bay can collect their voting documents from the Qawra police station and those living in Iklin, Lija, Marsascala, Mellieħa, Pembroke, Pietà, Swieqi, Ta’ Xbiex and Fontana can go to the local council office.

No form of ID other than an identity card can be used.
