The police has launched a campaign aimed at creating more awareness about digital crime.

A video clip giving information on how to avoid being caught in scams accompanies the campaign.

Over the past year, the Cyber Crime Unit probed 240 cases, each of which was launched after reports from members of the public saying they had fallen victim to digital crime.

They included instances of people sending money to an address after receiving a text message informing them they had won a lottery and others who received an e-mail telling them money was needed urgently.

The police appealed for people to check the credibility of such digital information and urged the public to report such crimes.
