Arrangements are being made for the practice of having a 24-hour police officer on duty at the police headquarters to be reintroduced, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said this evening.

The minister was replying to a Parliamentary question by shadow minister Jason Azzopardi.

The practice had been stopped by the previous administration, which had deemed it not to be family friendly.

Sources explained that the control room was manned around the clock, even during the night, and the issue was only about the duty inspector.
