The Department of Contracts yesterday signed a €22.4 million contract with the Spanish joint venture SJ Kappara KV for the construction of the Kappara junction.

Apart from the construction of the grade-separated junction itself, the contract provides for the construction of the merging and diverging lanes to connect the overpass with the adjoining roads.

It also covers traffic management during construction works, the underground infrastructure and street furniture work and the shifting of existing services and installation of new ones.

Work on the junction will start early next year.

The construction contract was signed by the department’s director general, Anthony Cachia, on behalf of the government and the joint venture’s administrator, Alvaro Bastida Cilleruelo.
