A 21-year-old man from Attard was seriously injured after he was involved in a car accident on Valletta Road, Mdina, in the early hours of yesterday.

The man was trapped in his Peugeot 306 before Civil Protection Department personnel used cutting equipment to free him.

His condition was initially critical, but stabilised when he was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital.

Police said the incident happened at around 1.45 a.m. when the Peugeot collided with a Ford Fiesta driven by a 20-year-old man from Zabbar, who was accompanied by three friends. None of them was seriously injured.

Duty Magistrate Audrey Demicoli launched an inquiry and police are investigating.
