Golden Harvest today inaugurated the largest and most technologically advanced bakery in Malta after a €20 million investment.

The new plant, at San Gwann industrial estate, has a floor area of 14,500 sqr metres spread over four storeys.

The plant is highly energy efficient and is equipped with the latest environmental friendly technologies including a photovoltaic system which provides 40,000 Kw of energy per annum thereby reducing energy costs by 18 percent.

It also has a solar water heating system which supplies hot water throughout the building, a modern waste separation system and a large water reservoir. The water is purified through a reverse osmosis system and used as second class water.

All oven burners use LPG gas thereby reducing emissions and contributing to the company’s environmental policies.

The new building was designed and built in collaboration of a world-renowned Israeli bakery management consultancy firm.

The new plant was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi in the presence of Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and company chairman John Aquilina.
