Primary and secondary schools are invited to visit the National Student Travel Foundation (NSTF) Science Expo from April 15 to 19 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

The event will also be open to the public on April 14 from 10am to 6pm. There is no entrance fee, but a €1 donation for cancer research projects will be requested.
This year’s expo will feature various activities regarding different aspects of science, targeting various age groups.
There will be a series of lecture-demonstrations by foreign and local academics and organisations on the following topics:
• Atmospheric science – A pollutant’s tale, by Alison Rivett from the University of Bristol ChemLabS outreach team;
• Applied biochemistry, by Richard O’Kennedy from the University of Enterprise in Ireland;
• Pheromone chemistry, by Adam Hart from the University of Gloucestershire;
• Astronomy and astrophysics, by Salome Matos, a postgraduate student from the University of Edinburgh and member of Milset Europe executive committee;
• Euclid plane geometry and the paper helicopter, by Nardone Pasquale from Université Libre de Bruxelles.
• Auxetic materials, by Joseph Grima from the University of Malta’s Chemistry Department.
• Robotics: a hands-on experience with robots, by SCT Malta and IMS Ltd.
There will be a series of lectures and audiovisual sessions on the following environmental and other topics:
• Wildlife and habitats of the Maltese islands, by Alfred Baldacchino;
• Flora of the Maltese islands, by Edwin Lanfranco;
• Marine biodiversity, by Alan Deidun;
• Water sustainability practices, by Marco Cremona.
• Alternative energy, by the Malta Intelligent Energy Management Agency;
• A healthy lifestyle, by the Malta Medical Students Association.
Of special interest to primary students, a Little Scientists’ Village will be set up, coordinated by Mark Theuma from the Institute of Art and Design at the Malta College of Art Science and Technology.
There will also be an exhibition of several projects recently carried out by a number of primary, secondary, Sixth Form and University students.
