Swedish entry Euphoria was the hot favourite to win this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, so it was no surprise when 28-year-old Loreen was announced the winner. What is perhaps surprising is her left-of-centre choice of musical influences.

Rather than your typical Eurovision fodder, she names artists such as Bjork, Lisa Gerrard and Enya among her inspirations, and totally hates being labelled an R ’n’ B artist.

Thanks to Euphoria’s ongoing success – the single has topped charts in Sweden, Norway and Finland – Loreen’s career has well and truly taken off, with an album planned for a September release. Local fans will surely flock to the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre on July 25 to see her performing live on stage.

To make the occasion all the more special, Kurt Calleja and other popular acts, namely Tenishia, DJ Ruby, Brooke and upcoming rock act MS Leads will also perform on the night.

The event will be hosted by Pierre Cordina.
