As the calendar flipped to 2010, people yesterday headed to the new Ta' Qali Adventure Park to enjoy the sun and gear up for the 12 months ahead. Claudia Calleja asked about their concerns and expectations for the New Year.

Paul Ghigo, 63, of Siġġiewi

I hope this year the country takes the path towards progress, especially since last year was quite tough for the economy. I hope 2010 will be a better year for us all.

Sara Fenech, 27, of Qormi

I'll be getting married within six months so, lately, my focus has been on the wedding rather than the country's state. However, on the whole I think all is fine and there are no big problems. One issue is the euro as you still see people, especially the elderly, who have not got used to it.

Alfred Spiteri, 50, St Paul's Bay

I'm an Air Malta employee so I hope in 2010 there will be more job security. I also think climate change is a concern for all. I hope world leaders make the right choices and all people play their role. I've read that if we stop wasting, we'd be better off and so would our children.

Doreen Barbara, 32, Mqabba

We need more open spaces like this Ta' Qali Park. Of course, there is the issue of the cost of living. I have two children and both my husband and I work. But we find it difficult to cope with the bills.

Arthur Azzopardi, 40, Ħamrun

There are many things to improve but, due to the recession, we can't expect much. I think 2010 will be like 2009, unfortunately. The water and electricity tariffs are a concern for all. The people need a clearer idea of where the extra money we are paying is going. This will put minds at rest.

Deborah Borg Falzon, 38, Fgura

I wish something is done about the cost of living this year. I have four children and coping with the expenses is not easy. I would also want to see the issue of the hospital waiting lists improved.

Adriano Schembri, 27, Żebbuġ

Cost of living and expenses to maintain a good lifestyle are a major concern, followed by healthcare. I would really like to see other parks where the whole family can enjoy time with their children and loved ones.
