The Health Inspectorate at the Department for Environmental Health yesterday investigated a consignment of just under 200 kilos of ricotta that was found to be below the permitted temperatures.
This consignment, which was intended for a manufacturing plant, was sealed and will be destroyed. Legal action was initiated against the offender, the inspectorate said.
The public is being encouraged to report any such abuse to the Health Inspectorate by calling 2133 7333 or by dropping an e-mail to complaints.ph@gov.mt.
Last week people complained that locally produced milk had turned sour before the expiry date.
Later, tests on three samples of Benna milk established the presence of a slight bacterial contamination which the health authorities insisted was not harmful.
