Some 200 police officers have raided 13 residences, mostly in Berlin but also other parts of Germany, in connection with the arrests last week of two suspected members of an Islamic terror cell.

Police said today that the raids were aimed mainly at people who, like the pair arrested last week, were members of a mosque in Berlin's Moabit neighbourhood.

They said there was no evidence that any of the people whose homes were searched were planning an attack, and they did not say if any arrests were made.

The two men who were arrested on Friday were identified only as 41-year-old Ismet D and Emin F, 43, in accordance with privacy laws.
