There were 194 cases of internet abuse reported to the Appoġġ Hotline Team over the past 12 months, the Foundation for Social Welfare Services said yesterday.

Of those, 131 came through Appoġġ’s online reporting system at www.appogg.gov.mt, with the remaining 63 received through calls to the team’s 179 Support Line. Cyber bullying, grooming, sexual harassment, illegal content, privacy issues, sexting and internet addiction all featured in the reports.

The news was released as part of awareness-raising around Safer Internet Day, which is being celebrated across the world today.

Local events for Safer Internet Day will close on February 25 with an information day at The Point, Sliema held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
