€16 million are being spent on the upgrading of industrial estates at Hal Far, Bulebel, Mosta Technopark and Xewkija, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said this morning.

The works will include new roads, parking areas, new lighting, reservoirs, landscaping and amenities such as child car centres at Corradino, Mosta and Xewkija.

Mr Fenech made his comments as he inspected works at Hal Far, which is absorbing €6 million of the investment. He said that this estate is being extended, with several enquiries already having been made for the provision of new factories.

The project is being co-funded by the European Union's Cohesion Fund.

Mr Fenech said that €10 million would also be spent to improve the industrial area for small industries at Corradino, which currently houses 70 industrial huts.
