The Cleansing Division collected a record 16,000 tons of rubbish from arterial and distributor roads last year.

That was the result of a reform within the division and purchase of new equipment.

In a statement on Thursday, the division said its staff are on arterial roads on all days of the week, collecting rubbish and carrying out maintenance works, such as rebuilding walls. The division is also involved in beach cleaning.

Maintenance works will be intensified in the coming weeks.
