Two international scrabble tournaments, organised by the Malta Scrabble Club recently, were patronised by numerous overseas exponents of scrabble, numbering over 100 participants from 14 different countries, including those from Malta.

The first event, the European Scrabble Championship, was won by Nikki Nicholson, followed by Graig Beevers, both from England, with Sin Hean Cheah, of Singapore, in third place.

In Class B, Maltese participants Cecil Muscat and Nicky Vella Laurenti placed first and second respectively, while in Class C, Nuala O’Rourke (N. Ireland) was first ahead of Englishman Dave Hoskisson.

The winner of the Malta International Open Championship was Nigerian Chinadu Okwelogu, followed by Sin Hean Cheah (Singapore) and Evan Cohen, of Israel.

Other honours went to Charles Micallef (Malta), Andy Gray (England), Mario Saliba (Malta), Daniel Milton (England) and Alroy Nancy, of Israel.

The events, held at the Para-dise Hotel, were under the auspices of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and were sponsored by the Malta Tour-ism Authority, Intercomp, Vascas Jewellers and Tile Fish.
