A total of 130 proud recruits graduated yesterday after a nine-month course at the Police Academy in Fort St Elmo, Valletta.

During the passing-out parade, they were inspected by Police Commissioner John Rizzo and Justice Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici.

Mr Rizzo's son, Keith, was among the recruits.

The course was the longest ever conducted. The recruits learned police law, discipline and tactics at the academy and received practical training. They also served in police stations and carried out work in the community.

The police force is in the process of taking on another 100 recruits, who will have to complete a year-long course before being eligible to serve in the force.
