Young Jeff Spiteri said today that seeing a man grab his mother's handbag from their car was enough for him to give chase without a second thought yesterday.

The 12-year-old chased the man along the streets of Marsa while shouting for help. The police acted promptly and arrested the man.

The incident happened when his mother popped into a pharmacy, leaving him in the car - with her bag on the front seat.

Jeff forgot all about his own money box on the back seat and jumped out of the car in pursuit when the thief fled.

Four men joined in the chase while Mrs Spiteri panicked when she came out of the pharmacy and did not find him in the car. She went to the police station, where he turned up with the police.

Speaking to timesofmalta.com she admitted that she should have never left her handbag in the car and warned people not to leave any valuables in their vehicles, even if they had a quick errand.

A man and a woman were arraigned in connection with the case today.

More in The Times of Malta tomorrow.
