Artem Sudakov, a 12-year-old member of the Rautu Yacht Club from Moscow, won the 13th Euromed Malta Championship which came to an end on Saturday evening with the awards ceremony at the Seabank Resort & Spa.

Sudakov finished ahead of Israeli sailor Omry Sela while Malta’s Thomas Bonello Ghio placed third in a class that attracted the participation of 72 sailors.

The four-day regatta was mainly an Optimists class event where only sailors under the age of 16 years were eligible to contest.

However older sailors raced in the Laser 4.7 and Radial classes and the RS Feva class where in both categories there were male and female participants.

Russia, represented by 30 sailors, won a special award as the foreign country with the biggest number of participants where in all 127 young sailors contested the 2012 Championship.

The Malta Euromed Championship was organised by the Malta Young Sailors Club with the cooperation of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and the Mellieħa Local Council and held under the patronage of the Malta Sailing Federation.

While the Seabank Resort & Spa was the championship’s official hotel, the Mexico Restaurant was the event’s headquarters.
