Twelve art students have been given scholarships to specialise in their fields.

Presenting the scholarships, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this evening that a total of 1,842 scholarships have been given so far.

Education Minister Dolores Cristina said the scholarship fund was launched in 2010 and €200,000 were being invested in it each year. This year, investment in the fund was increased by 20 per cent to €240,000.

Ms Cristina said that 36 scholarships have been given in the past three years. A selection board chose the winners from around 170 applicants.
