The next edition of the Malta Urban Jungle Triathlon will take place on May 20.
The daring challenge will see athletes cover an accumulated distance of 113km, consisting of a 1.9km swim, a 90km cycle and a 21km run.
The triathlon will be held in Birżebbuġa, starting off with the swim segment at St George’s Bay.
The race promises to be an exciting one with a good number of seasoned athletes, along with some newcomers to the sport, having already signed the entry form.
Last year’s winners – Michelle Vella Wood and Brian Magri – will be defending their titles.
Those who are not trained to cover the whole distance may opt to join relay teams, the organisers said in a statement.
“The purpose of this event is two-fold,” Charlie Demanuele, race director and organiser, said.
“First, we want to encourage more people to experience triathlon and, secondly, we want to give more seasoned triathletes a taste of endurance races that could help them prepare for bigger challenges such as the Ironman.”
This year, all start line participants will be eligible for a draw that will see a lucky athlete take home a Cervelo P1 triathlon bike. This prize was made possible through the assistance of Jack Schiavone, of The Cyclist, who has been backing this event for a number of years now.
Registration and race briefing will take place on May 11 at Al Fresco Restaurant. More information may be obtained by sending an email to mvg072@gmail.com.
The triathlon is supported by Urban Jungle, The Cyclist, Olympic Sports Nutrition, Al Fresco and VJ Salomone Marketing Limited.
