Eleven students with behavioural problems have completed a 17-day experience with the Armed Forces of Malta, which teamed up with the Education Department’s Alternative Learning Programme aimed at providing a holistic approach to character formation.
The idea behind the project was to immerse a group of students aged 15 to 16 in a military environment.
Special emphasis was put by military instructors on reinforcing social norms and values present in military ethos. All AFM regiments were involved.
In spite of behavioural challenges that hampered their educational progress in Form V, students volunteered for this experience hoping to explore a different lifestyle and improve their knowledge base.
Sixteen students embarked upon the programme with 11 completing the 17-day experience.
