A suicide bomb attack killed 11 people and wounded 16 today as recruits gathered at a police academy in central Baghdad, police said.

Eight police were among those killed in the attack at Baghdad's main police academy, police said, and the rest were recruits.

The explosion jarred the Iraqi capital as violence drops sharply from the height of sectarian and insurgent bloodshed unleashed by the 2003 US-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein.
