A train derailment at a railway construction site in China killed 11 people and left at least one injured.

A man surnamed Zhang with the government of Inner Mongolia’s Baotou city said the train that derailed last Friday was carrying stones used in the construction of a rail line linking Baotou to Mandalt, a border town near neighbouring Mongolia.

Mr Zhang said the cause of the accident was still under investigation yesterday.

Workplace accidents are common in China, with thousands dying every year in part because of lax enforcement of safety rules and poor worker training.
