1,013 migrants were rescued off the coast of Libya yesterday in eight rescue operations coordinated by the operations centre of the Rome Coast Guard.

The migrants, aboard rafts and small boats, were rescued by a British ship operating with Frontex, an Irish military vessel and Italian Coast Guard ships.
