Melita has rolled out a free internet upgrade to around 10,000 clients who are already subscribed to its Fibre Power packages.

Customers on Fibre Power 25 Megabits or Fibre Power 50 Megabits received a free 5 Megabit and 10 Megabit upgrade respectively. The upgrade came with no strings attached, no new commitments, conditions or additional charges and will last for the remaining duration of existing contracts, the company said.

This free upgrade will therefore enhance internet speeds from 25 to 30 Megabits per second and from 50 to 60 Megabits per second.

"Up until about a year ago, the most common internet connection in Malta reached speeds of up to 5 Megabits per second. Today, our minimum entry level bundled speed is 30 Megabits per second. We wanted to thank our Fibre Power customers for their loyalty and why not, this is our Christmas present to 10,000 customers. Our customers will continue to enjoy an internet experience far better than most other European citizens", commented Ludolf Rasterhoff, Melita's Chief Operating Officer.

Melita is now connected to one of only six Tier 1 internet providers in the world - "Level 3" – through a direct link between Malta and Milan. Level 3 is a global provider and provides internet services to global tech giants such as Apple and Netflix.

Residential customers are experiencing an improved service particularly when using applications like online multi-player games, video streaming and other applications that require quick or real-time response from different points around the world. Business customers will see improved latency and even lower packet loss results, Melita said.
