Fines having a total value of €1.2 million have been struck off since 2008 after successful appeals to the Petitions Board, figures given in Parliament show.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said the board had received 64,191 petitions and upheld 39,812.  2,263 are currently pending.

The total value of the fines which were appealed from was €2.17 million..

Nearly 40,000 petitions were from tickets issued by wardens and just under 14,000 were tickets issued by the police. 5,754 were  tickets from CCTV footage and 4,501 from speed cameras.
