Żebbuġ residents have filed an official letter claiming that holes in a wall that used to serve as a sort of drain were covered up, causing flooding in the area.

Peter Paul Cachia and his wife Anna, Anthony Gatt and his wife Pauline, Alfred Ciappara, Carmen Camilleri Ciantar, Żebbuġ mayor Alfred Grixti and administrative secretary Christopher Formosa explained that the weep holes were meant to allow rainwater to drain away.

These had been covered up on September 14 and, as a result, rainwater was accumulating and seeping into their properties.

The boundary wall in Ħali Street, of which the holes formed part, belonged to Joseph and Alfred Manduca, the owners of the palazzo, the residents said.

The residents asked the owners to reopen the holes within a week.

The official letter was issued against the Manducas, the Infrastructure Ministry and Transport Malta.

Lawyer Gavin Gulia signed the letter.
