A 53-year-old man from Żebbuġ suffered serious injuries while burning fireworks scraps in a field in his hometown yesterday morning.

The police said the man was taken to hospital at about 11 a.m. by a 42-year-old man, also from Żebbuġ, who was with him when the accident happened.

The man is not in critical condition and is stable.

The men were burning the scraps, which can include anything from bits of wood to empty bags of chemicals or gunpowder, which may still have residues, in an area known as Wiċċ ir-Raħal.

They belong to the St Phillip’s Fireworks Factory.
