Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said his ministry did not have a copy of the internal police report on the conduct of operations surrounding the case of Darryl Luke Borg.

Mr Borg had been remanded in custody after being charged with holding up a confectionery. Two days later the mistake came to light when Inspector Elton Taliana arraigned another man who pleaded guilty. Mr Taliana had been chastised by the Police Board for failing to alert his chain of command about the CID’s mistake.

Answering questions by Opposition whip David Agius, Mr Abela said that while the findings of an inquiry ordered by the government had been released, it was up to the Police Commissioner to decide whether the internal police report should be published.
