A notary found an ingenious way of stealing money destined for the Commissioner of Inland Revenue.

Justice Minister Owen Bonnici told Parliament last night the notary registered a company called CIR, allowing cheques by clients drawn on the Commissioner of Inland Revenue (CIR) to be deposited in that company’s account.

During the debate of the Budget Measures Implementation Bill in committee Dr Bonnici said this proved amendments to the Notarial Act could still eradicate abuse.
