A 33-year-old man from Valletta was remanded in custody yesterday after pleading not guilty to threatening his former partner with a screwdriver and then threatening to kill her inside a police station.

Police Inspector Hubert Cini told the court that Kenneth Cassar turned up at his former partner’s house on Monday evening and took his daughter while threatening her and her mother with a screwdriver.

Since there were no court orders preventing him from taking away the four-year-old girl, the police could do nothing about it.

An agreement was then reached for him to return the girl to her mother in the presence of the police but, yesterday morning, while his former partner was at the police station, Mr Cassar threatened he would kill her.

He is pleading not guilty to making threats and relapsing.
