Allow me to express my approval of the article by Godfrey Baldacchino ‘The reality of southern discomfort’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, November 24). I was born and still live in Tarxien and feel that many people in the north of Malta look down upon us who live in the south.

They think that there are no graduates in my town, no teachers, no accountants, no pharmacists and most of the people only have a primary school level of education. This is far from the truth; but one has to convince these people.

In Tarxien we also have a three-star hotel at Bowyer House in Main Street and a one-star hotel at Burrows in St Mary Street.

So tourism in Tarxien does not depend on day trippers only, who are quite numerous because of the Tarxien Temples, which are a Word Heritage Site.

In a small island like Malta, I cannot comprehend why there is such a disparity among my countrymen.
