Sliema is practically run by big contractors who fail to observe construction regulations, Alternattiva Demokratika said yesterday, as it dismissed the town as a case study of a failed council.
AD chairman Michael Briguglio his main priority as local council candidate was to ensure that Sliema residents’ quality of life is given priority over the inconvenience caused by big developers and careless contractors.
“Various construction projects are characterised by daily inconvenience to residents and by blatant cases of lack of enforcement: the so-called protective ‘green nets’ used for hoarding are a case in point,” he told a press conference.
Mr Briguglio described Sliema’s roads and pavements as disgraceful. Potholes, broken pavements and uneven infrastructure were practically everywhere, he said.
Contractors often carried out shoddy work, and trucks were frequently overloaded, causing damage to roads, pavements and sewage systems.
