The incinerator at Marsa has had to be shut down “practically regularly” since its commissioning by the Nationalist government, Environment Minister Leo Brincat told Parliament yesterday.

He was answering Charlò Bonnici (PN), who had asked why the incinerator had been shut down since the 12th of this month, and when any repairs would be completed.

Mr Brincat said that between 2012 and the end of the previous legislature the incinerator had had to be shut down 13 times for a cumulative total of 121 days.

This time, according to WasteServ, the incinerator had had to be shut down because of damage to the PCC outer ring, due to its high working temperatures.
