The government should keep the public better informed about the implementation of the climate change strategy, the Nationalist Party said.

In a statement released to mark World Environment Day, the party’s spokesman for the environment, Charlo Bonnici, said the PN was committed to work hard to safeguard the environment.

As a party in Opposition, he said, it had made concrete proposals on various issues including waste management, the need to revise environmental policies, the environmental threat of having a gas-storage facility in Marsaxlokk bay and the separation of the environmental and planning arms of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority.

The party also supported international efforts to address the problems brought about by climate change.

He said Malta should strive to be an example of how adapting to climate change, the green economy and sustainable development and safeguarding the environment and biodiversity could take place in an integrated manner.
