A suitably equipped van to give police better facilities in Paceville is ready and will be deployed soon, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia said in Parliament yesterday.

He was answering a supplementary question by PN MP Jason Azzopardi.

Earlier, Dr Mallia had invited Dr Azzopardi to visit the temporary, mobile police station at Marsascala to see for himself the facilities it offered not just to the police but also to visitors, including quarters where confidential reports could be made.

Dr Azzopardi had earlier said that during the recent cyclone, the mobile unit had moved and water had entered it, raising concerns among staff about the possibility of electrocution.

Dr Mallia said he had no knowledge of this “quasi-tragedy” but resented the impression that the government had taken just any container and turned it into a police station.
