The number of police officers stationed in Paceville needs to be increased, according to Opposition home affairs spokesman Jason Azzopardi.

He was reacting to comments by acting Police Commissioner Ray Zammit who said increasing police presence in the area was not the solution to its crime problems.

Dr Azzopardi claimed that figures on the number of police officers stationed in the nightclub hub, supplied by the police’s media relation unit, did not tally with the accounts given by officers.

Times of Malta last week reported that queues were forming outside St Julian’s station in the early hours of the morning, due to a lack of police resources.

“This doesn’t mean reports aren’t being filed. They can’t be filed because of the situation,” he said.
