The government has appointed a chief executive officer to oversee “new and modern” systems of purchasing medicines, Health Minister Joseph Cassar told Marie Louise Coleiro Preca (PL) in reply to a parliamentary question.

She had asked if the time had come for the government to buy out-of-stock medicines or reimburse expenses in this sense.

Dr Cassar said it was not government policy to reimburse such expenses, but it was committed to finding the quickest possible solutions when such circumstances arose.
