The estranged husband of former Miss Malta Claudia Calleja entered a police station with a camcorder, videoed the officers and then threatened to kill the woman’s boyfriend when they refused to go for his children, a court heard.

Ms Calleja’s boyfriend is well-known television presenter Jean Claude Micallef.

The bizarre behaviour allegedly exhibited by Kevin Dalli, 40, from Msida, came to light yesterday when he was charged with “practically everything in the Criminal Code”.

Police Inspectors Saviour Baldacchino and Jason Sultana told the court that on Wednesday Mr Dalli walked into Msida police station armed with a camcorder and began taking video of the police officers as he asked them to accompany him to pick up his children.

He was asked for a court decree, which he did not possess, and they told him that without it they could not take action.

At that point Mr Dalli’s frustration boiled over and he said he was going to kill a man, referring to Mr Micallef, the court heard.

The accused then darted out of the station with the officers in pursuit and drove to the Gżira police station where he gave a repeat performance before being arrested.

Magistrate Anthony Vella, paging through the charge sheet, remarked that the police had charged Mr Dalli with practically everything in the Criminal Code.

The charges included stealing €4,000 worth of Ms Calleja’s jewellery from the matrimonial home, threatening her, slightly injuring her in 2010, filing a false police report, being in possession of a stuffed protected bird, damaging Ms Calleja’s car and disobeying police orders.

Lawyers Joseph Giglio and Lorraine Schembri Orland, appearing for Mr Dalli, asked for bail, with Dr Giglio describing the incident at the police station as an “original way to express his frustration”.

The inspectors voiced their concern and wanted to make sure that he did not approach the victims in the case.

Magistrate Anthony Vella granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000, one of the conditions being that he does not approach the victims.
