All the idols of Labour leader Joseph Muscat created problems in their countries, according to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

He underlined the economic turmoil brought about by French president Francois Hollande and Spain’s former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, both Socialists who “promised everything to everyone”.

Dr Gonzi said people should vote for who they trust most to guarantee jobs. Directing his speech to the large number of still undecided voters, he pointed out that while other EU countries were collapsing, Malta had no protests in the streets because it had very low unemployment rates.

“Why should we risk everything we have? A change in our case can only mean a change for the worse,” he told supporters in Qormi.

He warned of various dangers that would come with voting Labour to government, including the risk of police interference. He said Labour had already tried to stop police investigations from the Opposition and would do so even more if given power.

He pointed out that Dr Muscat had first claimed he knew nothing about the drugs case involving Labour deputy leader Toni Abela, but today it emerged otherwise.

Dr Gonzi said there were only two and a half weeks to go to the election but each day, the crowds at PN activities were getting bigger.

Meanwhile, German MEP Manfred Weber, the Vice President of the EPP, said that in Bavaria the Christian Social Union had been in power since World War II because the people knew to vote for those who delivered not those who promised.

Dr Gonzi later inaugurated a new outdoor gym and children’s park in Qormi.
