A delivery man who was reported missing by his employer when he practically disappeared while distributing items to customers yesterday admitted to selling the goods to buy cocaine.

Brandon Cachia, 27, of Vittoriosa admitted to misappropriating stock, mostly cleaning items belonging to the shop Sparkle Image, which he was meant to have delivered.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine.

Police Inspector Robert Said Sarreo described Mr Cachia’s behaviour as a “moment of madness”, which stemmed from his drug addiction adding that the accused definitely needed help.

Mr Cachia had been con-ditionally discharged last year over something similar, the officer added.

Defence lawyer Noel Bartolo asked the court to order a pre-sentencing report and said that his client needed to attend a drug rehabilitation programme.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea granted Mr Cachia bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000 and warned him of the consequences of breaching the conditions, adding that the court was willing to help him but he had to help himself.
