A young man with anger problems was yesterday charged with threatening his father with a gun, two years after being accused of attempting to seriously injure his brother.

Keith Agius, 25, from Qormi, was constantly arguing with his family and being at home was not an option at this point, Police Inspector Roderick Zammit told the court.

He said this was the second serious incident, the first having occurred about two years ago when Mr Aguis allegedly tried to injure his 23-year-old brother Justin who, in turn, was accused of threatening his brother with a shotgun.

Mr Agius pleaded not guilty to the illegal possession of a firearm and threatening his father on Monday afternoon.

His probation officer, Marilyn Attard, said that he was doing well but, although she had tried to teach him some methods to control his anger, he was not receiving formal therapy.

Mr Agius requested permission to speak and told Magistrate Edwina Grima that the only problem he had was with his father, which was a result of a long-standing dispute.

The magistrate granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €7,000 and ordered him to live at a shelter in Ġzira.

She warned him that if he did not follow the home’s regulations he would be taken straight to prison.
