The man Whitney Houston’s daughter calls her husband has said he is seeking permission from Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family to visit her in hospital.

Nick Gordon said in a statement through his lawyers, Randy Kessler and Joe Habacy, that he hopes his request will be granted.

Bobbi Kristina was found face-down and unresponsive in her bathtub in Alpharetta, Georgia, on January 31. The 21-year-old’s family said she has been “fighting for her life” at Emory University Hospital.

Gordon’s lawyers said their client “desperately” wants to see Bobbi Kristina. The statement said he has not tried to return to the hospital and risk a public confrontation.

Doctors have taken Brown off the ventilator that has helped her breathe, but no decisions have been made to take her off life support, a family source said.

The source, who declined to be identified, said Brown’s overall condition has not changed. Removing the breathing tube was a standard course of practice to avoid infection.

CNN reported that Brown will now receive air through a hole in her throat, indicating she will likely remain in that position for weeks or months rather than days.

Family members have little about the aspiring singer’s treatment or medical prognosis. Bobby Brown has asked for privacy.

Police in Roswell, Georgia, are treating the case as a criminal investigation and have been questioning people about the circumstances leading up to Brown being found in the tub.

Brown’s famous mother, a six-time Grammy Award winner and actress who battled substance abuse, drowned in a hotel bathtub.
