Foul smells are once again engulfing Albertown in Marsa, according to the local council, which yesterday questioned why they start emanating from the incinerator, or the slaughterhouse, come summer.

The council has asked the health authorities, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority and the Environment Minister to take action to put a stop to “this inconvenience” as soon as possible so that the residents in the area can live comfortably.

Last July the council had given a news conference over the smells and Wasteserv Ltd had said they were caused by meat which could not be incinerated until maintenance works on the incinerator were completed. But this time WasteServ has insisted the incinerator at Marsa is working under normal operating conditions.

“There are no unusual foul smells emanating from the plant as a result of any unforeseen maintenance or the high summer temperatures,” it said.
