Most families in Malta were still facing a recession, even if the country was technically out of it, Labour said yesterday.

Economic affairs spokesman Charles Mangion said it was concerning that the economy had been in recession when the eurozone as a whole was not.

While it was positive to hear Malta was now out of recession, the economic growth of 0.9 per cent was not enough for a country which hoped to have the same living standards as other EU countries.

Furthermore, matters had not improved for families, with local demand, including household consumption and even government consumption and investment declining.
