On Sunday, I decided to visit the War Museum at St Elmo, in Valletta. It had been quite a long time since my last visit there and I can say that a lot has been done to show the exhibits in a more professional way.

On the other hand, the space has become too small for such a large collection. Suffice it to say that when a large number of visitors are attending at any given time, it becomes almost impossible to stop and read the text relative to the exhibit.

The wingless Gladiator aircraft Faith in the middle of the hall is taking up valuable space. I strongly believe that this aircraft should be moved to its rightful place in the aircraft museum at Ta’ Qali, were it can be professionally restored. A couple of years back a set of wings and other parts were bought at a considerable expense to bring this aircraft to its former glory. Unfortunately, since then Heritage Malta had second thoughts and objected to its transfer.

I urge the new government to take the right and sensible decision and have the aircraft restored to its former glory.

Only then will it have pride of place along with the Hurricane and Spitfire.
